Beeb Apple blunder

Guy Goma - Apple expertIt passed me by while I was away in New York, but it turns out the battle of the Apples appears to have ended in victory for the candy-colored Californian variety. The verdict surprised enough people, though, that the home-grown beatle-ridden Granny Smith variety is considering a peeling.

Far more entertaining, however, was the tale of Guy Goma, who turned up for a job interview in the BBC’s IT department, got mistaken for one of those opinion-for-hire IT journalist types and whisked off to the studio to be interviewed about Apple, downloads, internet piracy, home taping - the usual rigmarole. (He wasn’t a cab driver, as was first gleefully reported.)

It’s not hard to imagine how it happened: “You’re Guy, right? You’re here for the IT interview? Ok, down the corridor, studio on the left, one mike each.” You never know what you’re going to get in a job interview these days - psychometric tests, assault courses: I suppose it seemed pretty reasonable to him at the time.
