Beeb Apple blunder

It passed me by while I was away in New York, but it turns out the battle of the Apples appears to have ended in victory for the candy-colored Californian variety. The verdict surprised enough people, though, that the home-grown beatle-ridden Granny Smith variety is considering a peeling.
Far more entertaining, however, was the tale of [...]

A tale of two apples

I suppose I shouldn’t let today go by without noting the Guardian’s article about the latest trademark battle between Apple Corps and Apple Computer. At the nub of the dispute is whether Apple Computer is violating its agreement not to use the Apple trademark in the field of recorded music. Apple Corps’ barrister, Geoffrey Vos [...]

Dover Whale

Getting the right computer graphics is always problematic, particularly if you don’t want to pay for them, don’t know what you want, don’t really have any great flair in graphic design.
The Dover Clipart Collection is very interesting, though, as was the time we spent browsing through the Dover Bookshop in Covent Garden this afternoon. Interesting [...]

Labels for Zapple singles

More non-vinyl Apple goodies at EIL include, most interestingly, labels for Zapple singles. Given that Zapple never released any singles, this is quite an interesting find. Since the label is little more than a standard Apple label with “Zapple” scrawled across the top, its aesthetic merit is limited, but it’s an interesting curio nonetheless.
The two [...]

Hiring Apple studios

Rare records dealers EIL continue to scrape the barrel for lots of Apple ephemera. Among the latest batch is a press pack for Apple Studios, built at great expense in the basement of 3 Savile Row. Famously unfinished in time for the Beatles’ 1969 Get Back sessions, the studios were eventually completed in 1970/1971, and [...]

Lou Reizner acetate

No picture this time, but another Apple acetate is for sale on Ebay, this time by Chicago-born record producer and singer, Lou Reizner. Tracks on this 12″ disc are Fireside Eyes, First Cut Is The Deepest, Toi Juliette, Better By Far.
This sounds like an interesting find for fans of early 70’s rock, not only [...]

Govinda ephemera

Copies of Radha Krishna Temple’s two excellent Apple singles aren’t hard to come by, but this US promo copy of Govinda for sale on Ebay comes with an interesting extra: a bit of press puff by George Harrison extolling the song’s virtues. His wish for it to be the first number one hit praising God [...]

More acetates

Two more acetates on Ebay. (I can’t be bothered to put links in any more – you should be able to find them easily enough.) One is a 10 inch acetate of Oh Darlin’ – presumably from the time that Abbey Road was being recorded and assembled, the other a 14 inch acetate of John [...]

Acetate Ash

Two more Apple acetates on Ebay, this time by 70s prog-rockers Wishbone Ash. One is a test version of their 1971 album Pilgrimage, comprising the tracks Vas Dis, Alone, Pilgrimage, Snake, Lullaby, Valediction, Where Were You Tomorrow. The other (item 4780315083) has no label track-listing, and the seller, like me, knows bugger all about [...]

Apple Acetate Porn

I never meant to get quite so hung up on Apple acetates: as you’ll know from Scraping The Barrel my own collecting activities are almost completely limited to UK Apple singles. Anything else would be trop chère pour moi.
For anyone who wants more of a fix of Apple acetate info than what I’ve recorded [...]
